Just In: Wike Declares Wednesday Public Holiday for Tinubu’s visit

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has proclaimed May 3 as a public holiday so that people can welcome President-elect Bola Tinubu.

In a statement, Wike's media assistant Kelvin Ebiri said that during his two-day official visit to Rivers, Tinubu would officially open the Rumuola/Rumuokwuta Flyover and the state-of-the-art Magistrates' Court Complex in Port Harcourt.

The governor of Rivers stated on Tuesday that he had plans to have Tinubu inaugurate some important projects in the state after the general elections during Tinubu's visit to the state during his presidential campaign.

After the general elections, a formal invitation was sent to the President-elect, according to Wike, and it was accepted.

“For us, it is an honour to the government and people of Rivers State to host the President-Elect on this historic visit,” Wike said.

"Consequently, I urge all Rivers citizens to come out en masse to receive our President-Elect, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and display the traditional Rivers hospitality as he commissions these legacy projects to God’s glory and the advancement of our development.

“Given this, I hereby declare Wednesday, 3rd May 2023, a public holiday to enable the people of Rivers State to receive our President-Elect rousingly.”

On May 3, 2023, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, all stores and commercial buildings in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State shall be closed, according to Wike.

He urged all security firms and labor unions to abide by the closure order.
