Fuel Subsidy: Anxiety Looms as FG, labour Meet Today

Representatives of the Federal Government and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, will begin negotiations on petrol subsidy removal palliatives today.

Remember that after the fuel subsidy was removed on May 29, the NLC threatened to shut down the country's economy by going on strike.

However, following a series of negotiations with the federal government, the NLC announced the suspension of its scheduled strike on June 5.

However, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, made specific proposals that would mitigate the impact of the increase in fuel prices and other necessary commodities caused by the loss of subsidies.

In the meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. today, both parties are expected to harmonize some of the requests.

The parties will reassemble at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to Kachallom Daju, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
