India has officially surpassed China as the World’s most populated country despite being about three times smaller.
With an estimated population of over 1.425 billion people, India has now recorded the highest population of any country in the world, surpassing China who had a peak of 1.426 billion inhabitants in 2022, followed by a decline since then.
Interestingly, China had held the record ever since the United Nations stated keeping track of population sizes around the globe in the 1950s but new figures from the United Nations’ Population Division have now estimated India’s number of residents to be 1,425,775,850.
India, in terms of total area, is the seventh largest country in the world but is almost three times smaller than China with an area of 3.287 million square kilometers (1.269 million square meters) as compared to China which covers a whopping 9.597 million square kilometers (4 million square meters).
India attracts many tourists from around the globe as it is home to many famous tourist attractions such as Taj Mahal and the Amber Palace.
