Edo Government Increases Minimum Wage to N40,000

The minimum pay for employees in the state of Edo has been raised from N30,000 to N40,000.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Governor Godwin Obaseki reaffirmed this.

As citizens continue to struggle with the effects of the loss of the gasoline subsidy, Obaseki recently announced a reduction in the number of working days from five to three.

He gave the assurance that his administration would support the workforce "in these very challenging times".

Obaseki added that his administration would use every effort to lessen residents' suffering.

“As a proactive government, we have since taken the step to increase the minimum wage paid to workers in Edo state from the approved N30,000 to N40,000, the highest in the country today,” the statement read in part.

It added that “the Edo State government is hereby reducing the number of work days that civil and public servants will have to commute to their workplaces from five days a week to three days a week till further notice. Workers will now work from home two days every week.”
