DSS: Terrorists Planning To Attack Worship Centres During Eid-El-Kabir

According to the Department of State Services (DSS), terrorists are intending to attack places of worship and fun centers on Eid al-Kabir,

This was mentioned in a statement released on Thursday by DSS spokesman Dr. Peter Afunanya.

Afunanya urged owners and users of public spaces, particularly markets and malls, to be cautious, and alert the appropriate security personnel of any suspicious activity or people.

He said that during a joint operation by the department and its sister security agencies, the service had seized primed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from suspected terrorists.

In continuation, he added that in Nasarawa State's Keffi Local Government Area, an operation along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway resulted in the arrest of a suspected gunrunner. Also, 486 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, 22 primed IEDs, N31,500, and a Volkswagen Golf with the registration number RBC202XA were also recovered.

According to the DSS spokesperson, on Thursday, the combined security team conducted a raid at Ejule in the Kogi State local government area on the hideout of a prominent gang leader and former prison escapee.

He claimed that during a gunfight between the suspect's gang members and the army, the gang leader was neutralized while the others fled.

The service gave Nigerians the assurance that it will keep working with sister security agencies to conduct the necessary proactive drills to thwart criminals' and their evil plans.
