South American football governing organization CONMEBOL have shown some honors to footballing Argentine footballing icon Lionel Messi as they present him with the ‘Baton of Football’ as well as a life-sized statue of the player holding the World cup which he won in 2022 for his country, Argentina.
The CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez assured during the memorable event that the statue will be placed in the CONMEBOL museum next to those of legendary players Pele and Diego Maradona. While presenting the ‘Baton of Football’, he also said; “In the name of South American and world football, today we give you leadership and command of the world football.â€
The Argentine player then took to his Instagram to thank CONMEBOL for the honor while sharing pictures of the event. He wrote; “Thanks to #CONMEBOL for this tribute and to #sole_pastorutti for that beautiful moment. It was very special and emotional.â€
