CHEVRON REITERATES COMMITMENT TO TACKLING OIL THEFT

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has restated its commitment to tackling oil theft, faulting an online platform blaming International Oil Companies (IOCs), communities among other stakeholders for oil theft hindering the industry’s growth.
The report purportedly attributed to Kabiru Rurum, the Chairman of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on crude oil theft, explicitly referenced Chevron and another IOC.

The oil multinational characterized the claim as inaccurate and unsupported. However, it reaffirmed its dedication to backing interdisciplinary initiatives to stop oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

According to CNL, illicit bunkering and oil theft in the Niger Delta region have had a detrimental influence on the company's operations and have had terrible consequences for the ecology and the economy of the country.

Chevron said it has continued to monitor its areas of operation and report any suspected illegal activity and breaches to relevant government security and regulatory agencies.
The CNL’s General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Esimaje Brikinn, noted that CNL’s commitment to working with government agencies and others to prevent oil theft was recently commended by the Special Investigation Panel on Oil Theft/Losses in Nigeria set up by the Federal Government during its visit to CNL’s operations.
