Atiku To Call 100 Witnesses For His Petition

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) nominee for president, has suggested that the Presidential Election Petitions Court call 100 witnesses in support of his appeal.

In order to support their petitions, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) plans to call 22 witnesses, including Bola Tinubu, who will give a 39-minute testimony, and 25 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is stated in the protocols for the main hearing of Atiku's petition regarding the results of the presidential election on February 25.

The parties also suggested adding 20 to 30 minutes to the main examination of key witnesses and expert witnesses, some of whom would be subpoenaed to give testimony under oath.

Chris Uche (SAN), the lead attorney for Atiku, claimed that although the law gives parties seven weeks to produce witnesses, doing so would take only around three weeks.

"The issues are narrower and are mostly constitutional; so they won’t require much time to determine. For instance, the issue of FCT,” he said.

The Presidential Election Petitions Court has postponed hearing petitions from the remaining three political parties until Monday, May 22, so that it can report on the consolidation of hearing procedures.
