April fool's day

April Fools' Day is an annual custom on 1 April consisting of practical jokes and hoaxes. Jokesters normally expose their selves by shouting "April Fools!" at the receiver.

Though the origin of this tradition is unknown, it's acceptance by media globally has ensured the longevity of the unofficial holiday.

People have gone to great lengths to create elaborate April Fools’ Day hoaxes. Newspapers, radio and TV stations and websites have participated in the April 1 tradition of reporting outrageous fictional claims that have fooled their audiences Such of this instance is  In 1985, Sports Illustrated writer George Plimpton tricked many readers when he ran a made-up article about a rookie pitcher named Sidd Finch who could throw a fastball over 168 miles per hour, for  the average trickster, there is always the classic April Fools' Day prank of covering the toilet with plastic wrap or swapping the contents of sugar and salt containers.

Similar to this unofficial tradition, in English-speaking countries, mainly Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, it is a custom to say "pinch and a punch for the first of the month" or an alternative, typically by children. The victim might respond with "a flick and a kick for being so quick", and the attacker might reply with "a punch in the eye for being so sly"
