APC'S BASSEY OTU WINS GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION IN CROSS RIVER STATE.

The Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Cross River state, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu has been declared the winner of the governorship election held last Saturday.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Teddy Charles Adias declared Sen. Bassey Edet Otu the winner at exactly 3 pm on Monday.

Bassey, a former federal lawmaker, scored 258,619 votes to defeat his closest contender and a serving senator, Prof Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 179,636.

With his declaration as governor-elect by the electoral officer, Prof Teddy, Otu will succeed the incumbent governor and APC party man, Ben Ayade whose eight-year two-term will end on May 29, 2023.

This declaration further strengthens the code 888 Ogoja/Calabar Agreement that was entered many years ago that each senatorial district (North, Central, and South) of the state will be allowed to do a two-term of eight years each as it usually begins with Southern District and ends with Northern District. Otu will replace Governor Benedict Ayade who hails from the Northern District of the state.
