UEFA to Reopen Bidding for 2027 Champions League Final After San Siro Decision

UEFA has announced it will reopen the bidding process to host the 2027 men’s Champions League final after taking the event away from Milan's renowned San Siro stadium.

The decision comes as authorities in Milan were unable to assure that ongoing refurbishment work at the stadium and its vicinity would not impact the match, according to reports from the Mirror.

In May, UEFA indicated that a decision regarding the host city for the 2027 final was delayed, pending necessary guarantees concerning the San Siro renovations.

A new host is now expected to be announced by May or June of next year. UEFA stated, "As the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its surroundings would remain unaffected by refurbishment works during the 2027 UEFA Champions League final, it was decided to withdraw the assignment to Milan and reopen the bidding process. A decision is anticipated in May or June 2025."

Additionally, an agreement has been reached regarding UEFA's solidarity funding, with Premier League clubs not participating in European competitions receiving a smaller share over the next three seasons compared to the previous agreement.

The last Champions League final held at San Siro was in 2016, where Real Madrid triumphed over Atletico Madrid in a penalty shootout. The stadium also hosted the 2001 final, in which Bayern Munich defeated Valencia via penalties
