Two Mortuary Attendants Arrested for Selling Human Body Parts in Osun State

The Osun State Police Command has arrested two mortuary workers for allegedly selling human body parts to suspected ritualists. The Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Giwa-Alade Emmanuel, announced the arrests during a press conference at the police headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

The mortuary attendants, identified as 43-year-old Johnson Daniel and 42-year-old Adetunji Okunade, were apprehended alongside several suspected ritualists: Olaniyan Azeez, Balogun Temitope Asimiyu, Oladapo Hammed, Kazeem Rasak, and Asaka Rauf. This action followed a tip-off from a vigilant citizen.

Emmanuel explained that credible information revealed that Johnson Daniel, employed at a mortuary in Ipetu-Ijesa, was selling parts of human remains to local traditional healers. The investigation uncovered that Daniel and his accomplice, Adetunji, were involved in selling both human remains and water used for bathing corpses to these ritualists.

During a search of the suspects' homes, police recovered items including suspected human bone fragments from the residences of Asaka Rauf and Oladapo Hammed. Additionally, a female undergarment and a notebook with ritual instructions were located at Balogun Temitope Asimiyu's home.

Emmanuel confirmed that all suspects have been charged in court
