In a heartbreaking turn of events, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has passed away. Mr. Ayilara died in the early hours of Thursday, August 29, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, shortly after undergoing prostate cancer surgery.
Sources close to the family confirmed that he had the surgery on Wednesday, August 28, but unfortunately, did not recover. His passing is mourned by friends, family, and colleagues alike, as a beloved member of both the community and law enforcement.
Ayilara previously served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department before taking over from his predecessor, AlG Idowu Owohunvwa. He was appointed to lead the Akwa Ibom State Command by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in February 2024.
This loss is deeply felt across the Police Force and the communities he served. His dedication and leadership will undoubtedly be missed.
