TCN Confirms Restoration of National Grid Following Jebba Substation Explosion

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the successful restoration of the national grid, which collapsed at approximately 8:15 AM on Saturday, October 19. The incident was attributed to an explosion in the bus section of a current transformer at the 330-kilovolt (kV) Jebba transmission substation in Niger State.

In a statement signed by General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN explained that the explosion triggered the activation of a protection system, which effectively opened the busbars to mitigate the blast. This precautionary measure helped prevent a fire and further damage to nearby equipment.

“The national grid experienced a temporary disturbance today at 8:15 AM, due to the explosion at the Jebba Transmission Substation. Our engineers have successfully isolated the faulty transformer and reconfigured the busbar arrangement, restoring power supply to the station and other parts of the grid,” the statement detailed. TCN assured the public that measures are in place to prevent similar incidents in the future
