Southern California Therapist Sues Dr. Dre for $10 Million Over Alleged Harassment

A Southern California psychotherapist is suing Dr. Dre for at least $10 million, claiming the rapper subjected him to a "systematic and malicious" campaign of "unbearable harassment." According to Rolling Stone, the alleged harassment left Dr. Charles Sophy feeling unsafe enough to wear a bulletproof vest.

In his lawsuit, Dr. Sophy states that he was hired by Dre in 2018 to mediate the dissolution of his long-term marriage to Nicole Young. He asserts that he worked "diligently, independently, and fairly" to help resolve their disputes and ceased communication with Dre after the couple reached a settlement in late 2021.

However, Dr. Sophy claims that about 14 months later, Dre began sending him unsolicited texts, accusing the therapist of misconduct. The lawsuit alleges, “Rather than viewing the mediation process as a chance for healing, Young chose to direct his frustrations at Dr. Sophy, resulting in a nearly year-long campaign of late-night texts, intimidation threats, and homophobic rhetoric.”

The 22-page lawsuit details an "overtly threatening" text sent by Dre around 10 p.m. on February 16, 2023, in which he claimed to have received "disturbing" information and warned Sophy that he would "have to pay for that." Dr. Sophy reportedly responded, "Excuse me," to which Dre allegedly replied, "Yes you," and called him "a piece of sh**
