Sokoto state police have arrested 18-year-old Abba Aliyu for allegedly abducting the 2-year-old son of his neighbor in the Badon Hanya area. The arrest follows a coordinated effort by the police to dismantle a kidnapping syndicate operating in the region.
In a statement signed by command spokesman ASP Ahmad Rufai, the police reported receiving a case of kidnapping that prompted an immediate response from the anti-kidnapping units attached to the Criminal Investigation Department. Through intelligence-led operations, detectives were able to trace the suspect's location, leading to his arrest.
Rufai revealed that the suspect had contacted the child's parents, demanding a ransom of N2 million. The terrified parents ultimately paid N500,000 for the child's release. During the investigation, the police recovered a Tecno android mobile phone used for communicating ransom demands.
The suspect has confessed to the crime and is expected to face charges in court once the investigation is complete.
