Security personnel thwarted an alleged assassination attempt on Henry Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State. The assailants were identified as armed individuals believed to be political thugs.
Michael Ihaza, a media aide, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, September 20. He noted that Okojie, who is married to actress Mercy Johnson, was attacked at his home by gunmen in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State license plate (PHC 253 FF).
The statement emphasized that the planned assassination was unsuccessful due to the prompt response from security personnel assigned to the lawmaker.
"The armed thugs, posing as police officers, along with two others, entered Hon. Okojie's residence claiming to have an appointment and proceeded to the living room. However, thanks to the intervention of the lawmaker's security detail, two of the assailants managed to escape, leaving behind the driver and another individual, who are currently being questioned by officers from the Uromi Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force," the statement elaborated.
