The Lagos state Blue Line rail system has just begun operations.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, officials, and other residents joined the inaugural train ride from Marina to Mile 2.

The train commenced the trip from Marina train station to Mile 2 around 9:13am on Monday.

The train made brief stops at the national theatres in Iganmu and Alaba along the way so that some passengers may disembark.

At 9:35 p.m., the train pulled into the Mile 2 stop.

The governor and a few other passengers boarded the train back to Marina at the Mile 2 station.

Speaking to reporters following the journey, Sanwo-Olu praised the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and other stakeholders for the project's successful completion.

The Lagos governor announced that the train will be paid for using the cowry card, an e-payment system utilised by all bus rapid transit (BRT).
