PREMIER LEAGUE INTRODUCES MATCH-PAUSE TO ALLOW MUSLIM PLAYERS BREAK FAST DURING RAMADAN.

The Premier League have issued a statement which enables Match officials to find natural pause in play during evening matches to allow any Muslim player or match official to break their fast before resuming the action during the holy period of Ramadan.

Mohammed Salah of Liverpool, Ngolo Kante of Chelsea and Riyad Mahrez of Manchester City are some of the famous Muslim football players in the league and are expected to fast which will see them abstain from eating or drinking during daylight hours which is an important period of self-reflection for Muslims and would need to break their fast once the sun set which will affect a number of players taking part in evening matches across all the league divisions over the month.

Ramadan, which is the Ninth month of the Islamic calendar and observed worldwide by Muslims as a month of fasting, prayer and self-reflection begins on Wednesday, the 22nd of March till Friday, the 21st of April. This event has prompted the Premier League to encourage match officials ahead of the kick-off to identify players who may need to break their fast during the game and (where possible) agree a rough time for this to happen.

The Football Association and Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have been contacted for comment ahead of this development.
