Notorious Phone Snatcher Arrested in Suleja by Niger State Police

The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a notorious phone snatcher, Jamilu Ismail, in Suleja. The 32-year-old suspect was arrested on October 16, 2024, by police operatives from the Maje Division while under the bridge at Maje, where he was found in possession of three stolen mobile devices.

According to the police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, Ismail employed a deceptive tactic to target his victims. He would approach individuals, requesting to borrow their phones to make calls, and once he received the device, he would flee with it. The latest incident occurred in July, when he tricked a victim in a similar manner.

On the day of his arrest, the victim recognized Ismail along Maje Road and raised an alarm, prompting police intervention. Officers intercepted him under the bridge and recovered the stolen phones during a search.

During interrogation, Ismail confessed to using the same method to steal phones from victims around Dikko, Maje, and Suleja. He revealed that he had sold one of the stolen phones for thirty thousand naira.
