NNPCL Purchases Fuel from Dangote Refinery at N898 per Litre

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that it acquired petroleum from Dangote Refinery for N898 per litre. On Saturday, September 14, NNPCL sent approximately 300 trucks to the refinery in Lagos, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, and loading operations began today, Sunday.

Many Nigerians had hoped that the introduction of Dangote Refinery would lead to lower petrol prices due to its local operations. However, NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye clarified on Sunday that the fuel was purchased at N898 per litre, disputing earlier claims of N760. "We successfully loaded PMS at the Dangote Refinery today. The assertion that we bought it at N760 per litre is incorrect. The price for this initial loading was N898 per litre," he stated.

Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and a member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products, previously announced that petrol supply from Dangote Refinery would commence on September 15, following an agreement on pricing and supply terms. According to Adedeji, NNPCL will serve as the exclusive off-taker of petrol from the refinery, while other marketers will obtain the product from the national oil company.
