The Nigerian Army has officially dismissed rumors circulating on social media regarding the alleged death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
The speculation began after a Nigerian journalist posted on X, claiming that Lagbaja had died of cancer in an undisclosed hospital overseas approximately 48 hours prior. The post alleged that his death had been kept secret due to lobbying by some generals seeking to fill his position.
In response to the unfounded claims, the Nigerian Army took to its official X account to label the reports as fake.
Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, born on February 28, 1968, in llobu, Osun State, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023 as the 27th Chief of Army Staff.
