Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Affirms Government's Dedication to Reforming Nigerian Correctional Service

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has stated that the federal government is focused on enacting reforms to transform the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

In a statement from Ozoya Imohimi, the ministry’s spokesperson, Tunji-Ojo voiced his worries regarding the disparity between the number of correctional facilities and the inmate population nationwide.

“We need to ask ourselves certain questions—do we really need 256 correctional centres in Nigeria?” he said.
“With a population of around 200 million and only 84,000 inmates, why do we have so many centres? How many armed correctional officers do we have to secure them all?
