INEC Schedules Anambra Governorship Election for November 8, 2025

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced that the Anambra governorship election will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025. The announcement was made by INEC's national chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, during a meeting with political party representatives at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 17.

Prof. Yakubu noted, “As you are aware, the last governorship election in Anambra State was held on 6th November 2021. By the effluxion of time, the governorship election is due next year.” He confirmed that the election date has been set to ensure compliance with the electoral timeline.

Key dates leading to the election include the publication of the formal notice on November 13, 2024, and the party primaries scheduled from March 20 to April 10, 2025. The candidate nomination portal will open on April 18, 2025, and close on May 12, 2025, with the final list of candidates to be published on June 9, 2025. Campaigning by political parties will commence on June 11, 2025, and conclude at midnight on November 6, 2025.

Voting will occur across all 5,720 polling units in Anambra State on the designated election day. Prof. Yakubu also indicated that INEC will provide further details regarding voter registration, transfers, and the replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the coming weeks. A detailed timetable and schedule of activities for the 2025 Anambra State governorship election will be published on INEC’s website and social media platforms.
