INEC Declares APC's Okpebholo Winner of Edo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday, September 21. INEC's Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Faruk Kuta, reported that Okpebholo received 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), who finished third with 22,763 votes.

Fourteen other candidates participated but received fewer votes than the top three. "That Okpebholo Monday of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected," said Kuta, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, in Niger State.
