House of Representatives Passes Bill for Special Armed Squad in FRSC

A bill aimed at establishing a special armed squad for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and enhancing the agency's operations has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives. Sponsored by Rep. Abiodun Derin Adesida and Rep. Olaide Lateef Muhammed, the bill seeks to amend the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Act of 2007 to create the FRSC Special Armed Squad.

Additionally, the bill proposes that FRSC officers holding the rank of Deputy Corp Marshal receive benefits associated with their rank, including retirement benefits. It also aims to empower the corps with sole responsibility for road traffic administration, safety management, and the prevention and minimization of traffic accidents on public roads. Furthermore, it seeks to grant the FRSC authority to clear obstructions on public roads and educate drivers, motorists, and the public on proper road usage.

The bill received unanimous support from members during a voice vote for its passage to the second reading. In a related motion, the House also adopted a proposal by Rep. Garba Ibrahim Muhammad, urging the FRSC to integrate more technology into its operations.
