Gunmen have attacked a crew from the broadcast outlet SuperSports in Anambra, resulting in the deaths of crew members and a police officer. They were en route to cover the Super Eagles' 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) reported on Saturday that the victims were "killed by kidnappers in an ambush on the Ihiala-Orlu Road in Anambra State on Tuesday, October 8, 2024," and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
According to the NFF, the assailants opened fire on the bus carrying the SuperSports team, which included staff and security personnel. The attack led to the immediate deaths of a cameraman, the police officer, and the bus driver.
