General Abdulsalami Abubakar Urges Swift Government Action on Nigeria's Economic Crisis

Former military leader General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd) has expressed concern over the worsening economic difficulties in Nigeria, calling for urgent government intervention. Speaking at his residence in Minna during a birthday visit from the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights, he stated, "The hardship in the land is getting out of control."

He emphasized that many Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities, such as food, transportation, and education due to rising costs and dwindling financial resources. "People are suffering," he remarked.

General Abdulsalami urged all levels of government to implement measures aimed at alleviating these economic challenges. He revealed that he is part of a forum that has submitted recommendations to the federal government on addressing the crisis. He noted that simply providing palliatives won’t resolve the issue of skyrocketing prices. Instead, he suggested that the government should increase the availability of affordable food in communities by purchasing and selling it at reduced prices.

"We hope these recommendations will be acted upon," he concluded.
