A gas explosion has resulted in the deaths of a couple, identified as Chioma and George, in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State. DSP Joshua Ukandu, spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, confirmed the incident to reporters on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
There were initial speculations suggesting that the couple might have died from a dynamite or inverter battery explosion. Chioma reportedly passed away five days after the blast, while her husband succumbed to injuries from the explosion on Wednesday, September 11, in the hospital.
According to Daily Trust, the explosion occurred shortly after the couple moved into their new home in Abakaliki. "The preliminary report indicates that it was indeed a gas explosion that resulted in Chioma's death, and not dynamite or a battery; however, further investigation is ongoing," the PPRO stated.
