Former Aide Bashir Ahmad Celebrates Killed Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar

Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has sparked controversy by taking to X to celebrate the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israeli soldiers. In his post, Ahmad shared a photo of Sinwar and wrote, “He was born, lived and died a leader!”

Yahya Sinwar's death marks the culmination of a year-long pursuit by Israeli forces. He was identified as a key figure behind the October 7 attack on Israel, which triggered the ongoing war in Gaza. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed Sinwar's death on October 17, stating that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had successfully “eliminated” him.

Sinwar's assassination is seen as a significant victory for the Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, adding to a series of high-profile eliminations of Hamas leaders in recent months.

Hamas, a militant group that has governed the Gaza Strip for nearly two decades, does not recognize Israel's right to exist and claims the territory is under occupation. The group launched an attack on southern Israel in October 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 fatalities and the abduction of over 200 hostages. In retaliation, Israel declared a war aimed at dismantling Hamas, which has led to over 40,000 deaths in Gaza, according to Palestinian officials
