Final Words of Texas Inmate Executed for Infant's Murder Revealed

The last statements of a Texas death row inmate, executed for molesting and murdering his three-month-old baby, have been disclosed.

Travis Mullis, 38, spoke his final words while strapped to a gurney in the death chamber in Huntsville, Texas, on Tuesday night. After choosing to waive his legal right to appeal his execution for the 2008 killing, Mullis remarked that he "took the legal steps to expedite this process, including assisted suicide."

"I do not regret this decision to legally speed up the process," he stated in his last words. "However, I do regret the choice to take my son's life. It was my decision that led me here," the convicted murderer added.

Mullis brutally assaulted his son, Alijiah, after attempting to molest another child on January 29, 2008. At that time, he, his girlfriend, and their newborn were living with a friend who had a daughter, as they could not afford their own home.

In a police confession shortly after the incident, Mullis admitted to trying to assault the 8-year-old at a playground, saying, "I asked her to take her pants off, and she said, 'No.'"

He was convicted and sentenced to death in 2011. Seven years later, he filed a motion to waive his appeals and dismissed his attorney, seeking to expedite his execution.

"I’m guilty of what I did, and the death penalty is legally justified; I believe it is morally justified for my actions. I'm ready to accept my punishment," he said during a previous interview.
