Federal Executive Council Approves 40 Houses for Judges in Abuja

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has greenlit the construction of 40 houses in the Federal Capital Territory for judges across the country. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced this on Monday, September 23, after a FEC meeting led by President Bola Tinubu.

The residences will be built in the Kantampe district, with 20 designated for the FCT High Court, 10 for the Federal High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal. Wike emphasized the importance the president places on the judiciary, expressing concern over judges living in rented accommodations and hotels, which he deemed unsafe and inconvenient for their duties.

He stated, "The president directed the FCT, through the FCDA, to immediately construct 40 designated quarters for judges and justices in the Kantampe district. This means 20 will go to the FCT High Court, 10 to the Federal High Court, and 10 to the Court of Appeal, with completion expected in 15 months."

Wike also mentioned that the federal government has approved the construction of access roads to the judicial quarters, including a road from Artillery Road N11 to the judges' quarters, as well as the development of internal roads within the quarters.
