EFCC Chairman Reveals Court Orders Hinder Corruption Investigations in 10 States

Ola Olukoyede, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has stated that the agency is unable to investigate corruption cases in 10 states due to court orders.

Speaking in Abuja on Monday during the 6th EFCC/National Judicial Institute (NJI) capacity-building workshop for judges and justices, Olukoyede addressed the theme “Integrating Stakeholders in Curbing Economic and Financial Crimes.”

However, he did not specify which 10 states are affected by these court orders that impede the EFCC's operations.

He emphasized the need for collaboration between anti-graft agencies and the judiciary in the fight against corruption, noting that the commission faces challenges such as frequent adjournments of high-profile cases and conflicting court orders in corruption prosecutions.

“In spite of our judges' dedication to resolving corruption cases nationwide, along with initiatives like practice directions and the designation of specific courts and judges for these matters, there remain critical issues that need urgent attention,” Olukoyede remarked.o
