As voting begins in the Edo State governorship election, operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested several individuals suspected of attempting to buy votes near a polling unit.
The alleged vote-buyers were detained in the Ego Local Government Area around 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024. EFCC officials subsequently took the three suspects—two men and one woman—away from the scene. Some residents protested their arrest, claiming they were being unfairly targeted.
This led to a brief confrontation between the operatives and residents who tried to stop the suspects from being removed.
