Dr. Ify Aniebo Debunks Breakfast Myth: "Most Important Meal" a Marketing Slogan

Dr. Ify Aniebo, a respected academic and wife of Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has taken to social media to challenge a long-standing belief about breakfast. In a recent tweet, she revealed that the popular saying, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," originated as a marketing slogan by Kellogg’s in 1917, aimed at promoting cereal consumption, and is not supported by scientific evidence.

Dr. Aniebo, who boasts an impressive educational background—including a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics and Microbiology from Queen Mary University, a Master’s degree in Applied Biomolecular Technology from the University of Nottingham, as well as advanced degrees from Oxford University and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine—emphasized that there is no substantial data to validate the claim that breakfast is more important than other meals.

Her assertion challenges one of the most widely accepted dietary beliefs, prompting discussions on the influences of marketing in shaping public perceptions about nutrition.
