Dangote Refinery Launches Petrol, Promises Quality on Par with U.S. Standards

Aliko Dangote, the billionaire owner of the Lagos-based refinery, celebrated a significant milestone as the Dangote Refinery rolled out its first batch of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from its impressive 650,000 barrels per day facility. This event took place on Tuesday, over a year after the refinery's launch in May 2023.

During a press conference, Dangote expressed his enthusiasm, declaring it "a celebration day for Nigerians." He reassured the public that the new petrol would enhance vehicle performance, stating, “You will no longer experience engine issues that many of us have faced.”

Emphasizing the refinery's commitment to quality, Dangote confidently asserted, “The quality here will match that of anywhere in the world, including the U.S. We will ensure that no one can beat us in terms of quality.”

This development is expected to have a positive impact on Nigeria's fuel supply, providing citizens with access to high-quality petrol and potentially reducing reliance on imported fuel. As the refinery begins operations, the promise of superior fuel quality marks a hopeful new chapter for Nigeria's energy sector.
