Covenant University (CU), a private institution, has been named Nigeria’s best university in the Times Higher Education (THE) 2024 Rankings.
THE Rankings, published annually, provide a comprehensive evaluation of universities worldwide. The latest report includes data from 1,907 institutions across 108 countries and regions.
The assessment is based on 18 indicators that evaluate university performance in areas such as teaching, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook.
In this year's rankings, over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications were analyzed, and feedback was gathered from 68,402 scholars globally. A total of 411,789 data points were collected from more than 2,673 institutions.
On the global stage, the University of Oxford in the UK has retained its position at the top for the ninth consecutive year, marking the longest tenure in the rankings' history, surpassing Harvard's previous eight-year reign.
