Anambra State Government Imposes Movement Restriction for Local Council Elections

The Anambra State Government has announced a movement restriction across the state from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024, to facilitate the smooth conduct of local council elections.

In a statement from the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the restriction is intended to ensure peace and order during the electoral process organized by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

“Ndi Anambra are hereby informed that there will be a movement restriction throughout Anambra State on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., as requested by ANSIEC,” Mefor stated.

The restriction will not apply to individuals on election-related duties, including ANSIEC officials, electoral observers, accredited journalists, and emergency services such as ambulances and firefighters. Mefor urged residents to adhere to the directive to maintain peace and avoid any legal repercussions for non-compliance.
