alia Obama Wins Award at 50th Deauville American Film Festiva

Malia Obama received an award at the 50th Annual Deauville American Film Festival in France for her short film, but she chose to exclude her famous last name from the credits. The 26-year-old, the eldest daughter of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, was awarded the Young Spirit honor for her directorial debut with the film "The Heart." In the credits, she used only her first and middle names: Malia Ann. The emerging filmmaker made a rare red carpet appearance, looking fabulous in a plaid Vivienne Westwood top and high-low skirt, complemented by knee-high burgundy boots. She shared that she felt a bit anxious about the red carpet, telling "Paris Match" in a TikTok clip that this was her first experience with such an event: "so of course I'm a little bit terrified, but mostly just excited." The 18-minute film explores a man's journey of grief following the loss of his mother as he fulfills her final wish, having premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
