2 Suspects Arrested Over The Attack On US Embassy Staff In Anambra

In connection with the assault on the US Consulate Convoy on Tuesday in the state's Ogbaru Local Government Area, the Anambra Police Command reported that it has detained two individuals.

 

The US administration made it clear that no Americans were among the victims of the incident, but some domestic staff members of the Embassy were hurt, according to reports.

 

Mr. Echeng Echeng, the commissioner of police for Anambra State, said a Joint Security Task Force, made up of police tactical teams and soldiers from the Nigerian Army and Navy, stormed the criminals' hideout in the Ugwuaneocha community of the Ogbaru LGA on Thursday.

 

He claimed that when security personnel arrived, they discovered an abandoned camp, which they destroyed. The Commissioner revealed that two people of interest were detained and are currently being questioned by police.

 

The victims, five male US Embassy employees, and four armed police escorts from Lagos, according to the Commissioner of State Police Command, Amawbia, were on an assignment to evaluate the effects of erosion in Ogbaru LGA.

 

At the time of the attack, they were traveling in a convoy of two vehicles.

 

The police chief stated that more inquiries are being conducted and that the public would be informed of the results as soon as possible.
